Kinda Over It

Maddy Hicks released “Kinda Over It” in May of 2022 with Overall Recordings.

In early February, Maddy recorded a video of herself performing the chorus of this song. She had no intention of finishing the song, and didn’t think anything of it other than the fact that it let her vent some frustrations she was feeling that night. With tears in her eyes and a deadpan expression, she sat at her desk and played the song on her Sterling by Music Man St. Vincent guitar. She posted the video on TikTok the next morning and didn’t open the app again until late that night. It had hundreds of thousands of views. To date, it has 3 million views on TikTok and over a million streams online.

“When I first wrote the chorus for Kinda Over It, I was at the tail end of a situationship. I was comparing it to similar experiences, wishing it could work out, and trying to be the bigger person. But that night when I sat down to write, the only thing on my mind was that I was fed up with feeling this way. I didn’t want to bend over backwards for this person anymore. I wanted to vent, and not hold anything back.”

Maddy Hicks released “Kinda Over It (feat. gnash)” in June of 2022 with Overall Recordings.

When Maddy first posted her song on TikTok, Garrett Nash reached out to show support for the song. The two ended up writing the rest of the song together. They also wrote a version with Garrett featured on the second verse, which they released a few weeks after the original version. “Kinda Over It (feat. gnash)” offers another perspective on the song that opens it up to be relatable to even more people.

“Cowriting Kinda Over It with Garrett was really natural, and we flew through the write because we had so many ideas for it. Some of the concepts that he came up with felt so well suited to him that we decided to do a remix featuring him on the second verse. He brings a different, important perspective that makes the song relatable to even more people. I’m honored to have written the original song with him and doubly honored now that he’s a feature on it!”
